Franklin-Essex-Hamilton BOCES will host open houses at its educational centers in Saranac Lake and Malone in October.

Both open houses will run 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20. Adirondack Educational Center in Saranac Lake is at 711 Route 3. North Franklin Educational Center in Malone is at 23 Husky Lane.

Attendees will be able to tour each classroom, meet staff and current students, and learn about each of the career-focused educational programs run by FEH BOCES.

Families of current students as well as members of the community are welcome to attend. FEH BOCES administrators would also like to encourage 10th graders and younger students who are interested in FEH BOCES programs to stop by and learn about them.

“Our students really thrive when they are able to learn through hands-on experiences,” said FEH BOCES Executive Principal Shawn McMahon. “AEC and NFEC students learn by doing, and they gain skills that will give them a step up when they move on to college, trade school or their careers.”

Adirondack Educational Center serves students in Long Lake, Tupper Lake, Saranac Lake and Lake Placid. They can participate in six Career and Technical Education programs, which are two-year tracks for juniors and seniors: Automotive Technology, Building Trades, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Health Occupations and Natural Resource Science. AEC also has an alternative education program called PASS and two New Vision options for seniors: New Vision Health Care Exploration and New Vision Education, which launched this September.

“I’m looking forward to getting to know the families and community members of our current students,” said AEC Principal Stephanie Murphy. This is Murphy’s first school year at AEC. "Open house is a great opportunity for our students to show off all the amazing work they are doing here. As we look to grow and expand our programs, this event is also a chance for prospective students to get inside our building and explore future educational pathways for themselves."

North Franklin Educational Center serves students in St. Regis Falls, Brushton-Moira, Chateaugay, Salmon River and Malone. They can participate in eight Career and Technical Education programs, which are two-year tracks for juniors and seniors: Automotive Technology, Building Trades, Cosmetology, Culinary Arts, Early Childhood Education, Electrical Trades, Health Occupations and Heavy Equipment. NFEC also has an alternative education program and three New Vision offerings for seniors: New Vision Health Care Exploration, New Vision Education and New Vision Government and Law.

Culinary Arts students at both AEC and NFEC plan to make refreshments for guests to enjoy throughout the open houses.
